Weber MT Motor Data Management: The Complete Guide

Weber MDM

Protecting your equipment investment is critical for contractors in New Zealand. Harsh site conditions and continuous use place significant strain on machinery. Weber MT developed the MDM (Motor Data Management) system to prevent costly downtime and extend the life of your compactors.

What is MDM?

MDM is an engine protection system available on select Weber MT reversible plate compactors. It actively monitors engine health to prevent mechanical failures before they happen. Unlike systems that focus on soil compaction, MDM focuses entirely on protecting the engine.

How MDM Works

Weber MDM

The MDM system continuously checks critical engine parameters during operation. It monitors aspects such as air filter status, engine oil pressure, and battery voltage.

If a parameter falls outside safe limits, the MDM system takes immediate action. It automatically shuts the machine down before any severe engine damage can occur.

The system also provides guided troubleshooting. An indicator alerts the operator to the specific issue and walks them through the fix. For example, the system will highlight if the operator needs to clear a clogged air filter. By catching issues early and guiding the operator through the solution, MDM prevents minor maintenance tasks from turning into major repairs.

How MDM Differs from COMPATROL® and WSA

MDM and Compatrol

Weber MT offers several distinct technologies on its compactors. Understanding the differences is important when selecting the right machine for your fleet.

  • COMPATROL®: This is a compaction control system. It measures plate acceleration and vibration frequency to show real-time soil compaction levels. It does not monitor engine health. Models designated as "CCD 2.0" combine both the COMPATROL® system and the MDM engine protection system.
  • MDM: As explained, MDM is strictly an engine protection system. It shuts the engine down to prevent damage and walks the operator through necessary fixes.
  • WSA (Weber Smart Assist): This is the newer, integrated system. WSA brings both the MDM engine protection and the COMPATROL® compaction control together onto a single dashboard display. On WSA machines, operators can view a redesigned bar graph for compaction progress alongside engine diagnostics and guided user support. WSA models also feature push-button vibration activation and automated engine speed control.

Models Equipped with MDM

Weber CR9

The MDM engine protection system is available on several Weber MT reversible soil compactors, including:

  • CR 6
  • CR 7
  • CR 8
  • CR 9

It is also integrated into the CCD 2.0 models, which combine MDM with the COMPATROL® compaction control system.
