Customer Story: MDB Green Climber – the Ultimate Solution for Steep Terrain

James of No Mans Land Mowing
At OMC Power Equipment, we’re proud to support New Zealand businesses with machinery that makes the toughest jobs safer and more achievable. Few stories highlight this better than that of James and Finley Dunlop, the father and son team behind No Mans Land Mowing in the Bay of Plenty and wider Coromandel.
This is orchard country, dotted with lifestyle blocks and small farms, where invasive weeds like gorse, woolly nightshade, and privet can quickly take over. James and Finley specialise in reclaiming land that has been neglected, restoring it for new owners or helping families bring back blocks that have slipped out of control. Often the work is on steep, rugged, and risky ground—terrain where traditional equipment struggles and safety is a constant concern.
That’s where the MDB Green Climber LV600 comes in. No Mans Land Mowing now runs two of these remote control slope mowers, machines purpose built in Italy for extreme conditions. With the operator standing at a safe distance, the Green Climbers chew through dense weeds and scrub, leaving behind a mulched, manageable finish. James describes them as “unbelievable” in what they can do, and after more than 2,000 hours of work, they’ve proven both reliable and cost effective.
For James, though, it’s not just about efficiency—it’s about safety and peace of mind. The remote control system removes the operator from the hazards of steep slopes or roadside work. It also makes the machine less intimidating for new operators, including his son Finley – “From a company point of view, I’ve got pretty good confidence in being able to teach someone else,” James says. “They’re not sitting on it with all the other sensations, they’re just listening to you talk them through it.”
Perhaps most unexpectedly, the work has also become deeply rewarding on a personal level. James recalls clients moved to tears as they watched him reclaim land they thought was lost forever. “There’s a block of land they’ve been working on for most of their life, then one turns ill and the land gets away on them. You end up recovering their dream,” he explains. “The job satisfaction is beyond anything I’ve experienced before… every job, you’re changing lives, which I did not see coming.”
Clients have noticed the precision, too. One customer in Thames was amazed that the weeds were gone while the native ferns and plants were left untouched—something rarely achieved with other types of heavy equipment. This accuracy, combined with the ability to work in wet or soft conditions, has made the Green Climber invaluable for projects like native bush restoration and waterway clearing.
James is an engineer by trade, but more than that, they’re passionate about helping good people improve their land and waterways. With the MDB Green Climbers, they’ve found a tool that matches their vision—robust, versatile, and perfectly suited to New Zealand’s toughest terrain.
